Spectacular Drives In Utah To See Fall Colors!

Everyone loves the fall season! Do you? If you’re looking for the best places to witness the changing fall leaves, you’ve come to the right place.

Soon, the fall season in Utah Valley will be in full bloom, covering the mountains in bands of orange and gold. A great way to see the approaching fall is to drive through the mountains and valleys of Utah Valley, one of the best places to see fall colors.

Although the optimum season for fall colors lasts from late September until roughly the end of October, the best hues are often forecast to appear in early October. The following six scenic routes in Utah County will definitely astonish you.

Here we go:

Logan Canyon

An autumn drive through Logan Canyon is going to be a wonderful experience for you. At first, you only see beautiful red, orange, and occasionally purple maples, but as you move more on the same route, you begin to see golden aspens.

They range from pale yellow to vibrant orange. You will find several pullouts along the way where you could take amazing pictures.

Big Cottonwood Canyon

You’ll enjoy the huge, towering walls of Big Cottonwood Canyon. There are several thrilling treks and excursions available in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

In the summer, you have an opportunity to spend a lot of good time on your foot exploring this canyon. Plus, you will learn that the fall foliage is magnificent.

Nebo Loop

The lesser-known but equally beautiful Nebo Loop is regarded as one of the top driving routes in Utah. The Uinta National Forest’s Nebo Loop provides a wealth of photo opportunities with its breathtaking mountain landscape and fauna.

Provo Canyon

As you enter Provo Canyon, take a look at the impressive mountains that cover the road on both sides. Visit Bridal Veil Falls to admire the cascade and surrounding orange and yellow trees.

If you go all the way to Heber, you can take the Heber Valley Historic Railroad’s Pumpkin Train. There you will see even more of the canyon’s breathtaking natural features, including Provo River.

If you wish to prolong your journey into a full day, continue driving past Heber and up to Park City or around to Guardsman Pass.

Highway 68, West of Utah Lake

Highway 68 may not contain the conventional elements of a picturesque drive in the fall, but what sets it apart is its unique beauty. The views along the road with changing leaves will give you an adorable eye-watching experience.

To view Utah Lake’s scenery and the enormous Wasatch Mountains in the distance, travel for miles along the lake’s western coastline.

The mountains have a beautiful aspect from a distance in the fall when they are covered in snow. For a truly unforgettable sight, get up early to see the sunrise over the mountains!

La Sal Mountain Drive

On UT 128 from Moab, travel 16 miles along the Colorado River. Turn right once you reach County Road 73, which will get you into Castle Valley. As you continue into Castle Valley, you can explore the Manti-LaSal National Forest.

This road is paved, but if it snows, it can temporarily become impassable. This happens because of the risky turns along parts of this route, particularly on the Castle Valley side, large RVs, large motorhomes, and large trailers.

Dead Horse Point State Park, Arches National Park, and Canyonlands National Park are some of the top local attractions.

Alpine Loop

While the Rocky Mountains are in the Western US, the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Appalachians is located in the Eastern US. Highway 92, a 20-mile highway that passes between mountain ranges and tight canyons, is one of Utah County’s most attractive drives. The colors of October are stunning.

Go hiking along the gorgeous backroad in the mountains, explore Robert Redford’s Sundance Mountain Resort, or visit Cascade Springs!

It is suggested you hike to the Timpanogos Cave National Monument before it closes for the year in October. To take advantage of the greatest color conditions, arrive before the Alpine Loop closes in mid-October.
